The Road Traffic Act (StVG) specifies in § 1 paragraph 3 sentence 1 that a vehicle is considered a bicycle and not a motorbike if the "system" bicycle motor has a rated continuous power of maximum 250 watts, switches off automatically at a maximum of 25 km/h and only operates while the rider is pedaling. A push assist with unlimited power is allowed up to a maximum of 6 km/h. If one intends to use an electric drive with a higher rated continuous power than that of an unregistered bicycle with pedal assistance, they must have the technical data confirmed by the manufacturers of the system itself or an additional component. The StVO module provides this advantage.
